Running ME but can't uninstall XP

Postby silverandblack74 » Thu Jan 27, 2005 5:57 am

I am trying to uninstall Xp from my pc but can not figure it out. My main Os is ME, but somehow Xp is also on the PC. Whenever i start my System I go to a screen that makes me choose if I want to run XP or ME. What should I do? :D

I looked on the bootdisk site but can't figure out which one I need. There are two selections to choose from with two versions of each:

Windows Me OEM | Alt1 | Alt2
Windows Me Custom, No Ramdrive | Alt1 | Alt2

Which one do I choose? Please help me! :classic:

I'm not sure where PCGuy was going with the boot disk routine. but if you have the option to choose which os you want, pick the one that works and use it. Windows ME is a crippled duck and it malfunctions perfectly. Recommend you back up your system, wipe the drive and install XP, getting rid of ME

I agree with icecube on this one. ME has been known to be one of Microsofts blunders. I believe if you go into your bios settings you can have it set so it will only boot with the O/S you want.

How do I get to the bios settings? I think that the drive is partitioned with the ME being the bigger of the two and XP the smaller. I don't no for sure if the version of XP is legal or not? I bought the pc from a computer show with no papers and only a recovery disk that restores to the original factory settings.

I am a little confused, do both O/S's work? :|

You might just want to edit the boot.ini and get rid of the option for the XP boot, here is a link to do it

Hope this helps
