wrong application opening

I was trying to open an encrypted doc. when I mistakenly checked MS Word to open in when Adobe should have been used. I have since downloaded the correct version and yet when I try to reopen the doc it continues to use word and it is UNREADABLE!!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Navigate to the file you want to open. Hold down the Shift Key while you Right Click on it. Now choose "Open With". Select the program you want to use and if you want it to be the default program of choice, select the "Always use this program..." Box.
