Missing "D" drive (CD/DVD)

I am missing the D drive on the computer. It was there yesterday and today its gone.
I went to Device Manager and noticed an exclamation next to IDE COntroller fifo and Ide Secondary controler fifo. This is apparently where the problem is. Anyway, I figured I would delete the master and have windows find and replace when I rebooted. I did that and it worked. It looked for and downloaded new compenents. Unfortunately, it did not repair the problem. The same problem exists. Any idea on how to repair this or will I have to load Windows Me again and lose everything on my computer.

All Versions
To cause Windows to attempt to reinitialize the protected-mode IDE driver: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
2. Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS
3. In the right pane, right-click the NOIDE value, and then click Delete.
4. Quit Registry Editor.
