IBM Aptiva 2153 E24

I was given an old pc, it was riddled with crap. So I ran the usual tools, Adaware, Spybot S&D, HJT. I got everything cleaned off. But now it will not connect to the internet. I have tried a different Nic card also. It won't even been seen through the network.
My next plan is to wipe it and reinstall Windows 98 and give to my mom. She just wants to talk to aunt in S.C.
My problem is I can't find any mobo drivers for it. A friend gave me some links to some sites but they were only drivers to update the Bios. I don't want to update.

I gathered as much info as I could, here it is

I am only looking for the mobo drivers so I can install Windows back on.

I don’t think that you will need motherboard drivers for your Aptiva 2153.
What you will have to do is search for whatever drivers the windows 98 CD does not have.
Like the modem, nic card, sound card, video and so on.

I would say format and install windows 98se then install updates
One of these updates is BIOS update another is a firmware update.
If you check in the BIOS those two updates might already be done.

Then check for what other drivers you may still need.

This particular machine has 1 PCI slot, 2 ISA slots. Sound and video are both on board. The sound and video are the drivers I am most worried that they will not be loaded.

So is windows currently installed? Can you not just read the graphics/sound card info from device manager & go looking for drivers?

Yes Windows is still installed I didn't wipe it yet. But what about the ports COM & LPT, and the Universal Serial Bus Controllers? I think I may run into troubles.

Once you get the PC to boot into Windows... the COM & LPT ports, and the Universal Serial Bus Controllers,should automaticly load.If not you can load them from the OS CD.You should have no problems.
