I cant figure out if its the monitor or the computer. The screen gos crazy flashs on and off or just gets all fuzzy and squigly. But if i turn the computer off using the power button when it comes back on the Compaq logo, the scandisk checking for eorrors are perfect. But when the mainscreen is trying to display it gos crazy. Then after awhile it works ok,like now.The computer is about 7yrs old and the monitor is 10 yrs old.

Didnt know how to do that, but i did reboot into safe mode and the display was fine.So i got to thinking and it seemed the problem started after i down loaded a program called Rambooster.I uninstalled this program and the display seems fine now. When rebooting before all the screens were fine untill all the programs started running, thats what led me to believe it was a program that was causing the problem.Does this sound right?I still have a little wiggle up on the tool bar but that may be because my moniter is 10 years old.Your reply made me think of this. Thanks!

hmmmm
the program is a possibility. doubht it though....
check some of these out...
1.check for new drivers for both monitor and vidcard
2.if you have opengl avaiable on your video card set it to wait for vertical sync (or always on) note : this will decrease your FPS (frames per second) but will stabalize your vidcard.
3.check the pins on the monitor
4. if this is happening while you have microsoft outlook open you could be gettin "color bombed" its a bunch of html code that changes your screen into like 30 different color flashes quickly then stops... (no harm done just annoying)
5.try removing the drivers for the monitor and reinstalling them
(note : dont reboot while there uninstalled. )
tell me if u need some more help ...

Yes it has an intergrated video card. The only thing its done since i got rid of the Rambooster is the wiggle at the top and it will flash to blank then to on very fast.Maybe i should consider a new monitor.
