casprog and deal helper

Postby xconniex » Tue May 25, 2004 1:02 am

Ok, I need an idiots guide to removing CasProg and Deal Helper 1.0.0.35. I ran adaware and got rid of whatever adaware found. And then I tried removing it using ad/remove hardware and it didn't work. I'm having trouble following the instructions i find on how to remove these programs. Yes, and idiot's guide would be much appreciated. ^_^

You wouldnt remove from add/remove hardware it would be removed using add/remove programs.

Download and install Spybot

After running Spybot and Adaware d/l HiJackThis
and post your log here.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)
Weather.EXE

Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and remove the following if they are there:
AWS or WeatherBug

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)
emur.exe

Follow my earlier instructions and have HiJackThis Fix:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Sato] C:\Documents and Settings\Valued Sony Customer\Application Data\emur.exe

Now delete these Folders or Files: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) that are Highlighted) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\Documents and Settings\Valued Sony Customer\Application Data\emur.exe

Now, empty your TEMP Folder / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and reboot.

Can I ask how you know that casprog is still "there"? What exact errors or messages are you getting?

C:\Documents and Settings\Valued Sony Customer\Application Data\emur.exe

this file does not exist on my computer. I booted in safe mode and told the computer to show all hidden files and everything too.

And Cas prog still shows up in the program list.

Wish you'd be more precise. In "Safe Mode"?
Do you mean in Program Files?
Do you mean in Start / Programs?
What about emur.exe"?
We can help you better if you'd take the time to explain, in detail, what you mean and have tried.

Sorry about the vagueness.

I followed your instructions as best I could. However, the file C:\Documents and Settings\Valued Sony Customer\Application Data\emur.exe doesn't appear to exist on my computer; I was unable to locate it even in safe mode.

I've been checking the programs list daily (the add/remove programs menu) and CasProg is still there and will not delete, which was the original problem.

Does that help at all?

Have you tried searching your hard disk for that emur.exe? Make sure you change the search prefs to search system & hidden folders & files :)

Yep. I searched for it using those settings and still nothing.
