Lines on my screen...

Ok, my screen seems to have like a lined filter of some sort on it. I dont really know how I got it... it like appeared out of no where :\ Does anyone maybe know what this is or how to fix it? Sorry for the non specifics but I dont really know how I got it.. If you need a screen shot or something I will try to get one but any help is appreciated

Have you tried another monitor? If so, does it have the same effect?

What is your video card?
Do you have the latest drivers for it?
Are they colored lines at the top of the screen?

Make sure Vid Card is properly seated in its AGP slot.(if its an AGP)
Did you update the M/O drivers?

Right clicking the MY COMPUTER icon and selecting Properties then the DEVICE Manager tab.
Click the + beside Display Adapter and that will tell you what your Video Card is.

While your in the Device Manager are there any Yellow exlamation marks?

In Device Manager click the + beside the Mouse, Highlight the entry there then Click the Properties button at the bottom.

Click the Driver Tab then UPDATE Driver....you'll need HP restore disk or the WinMe cd

After its done click ok and reboot.

You said you've had this machine since Dec. 2000,have you ever had the Tower Cover off?
Just curious because dust collects in there real fast and can cause problems.Also the the SEATING of the Devices installed in the PCI slots and AGP slot can become UN-Seated.
Something to check out if the above doesn't solve your prob.
