Windows Media Player not working...

PostPosted: Sat Mar 06, 2004 5:41 am

I recently installed a new DVD player and Video card.GeForce4 MX 440 AGP8x.

I did have Media Player 9 then all of a sudden when I would load it,it would sit in the task bar and when I would try to open the window it would shoot off the screen to the right!

When I went to ADD/REMOVE programs to remove it it gave me the option to revert back to the original version...6 I think.
Well now they are all gone.
I just installed version 9 again but its still shooting off to the right and won't open.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to view DVD's? Does it do that no matter what media you're trying to view?
It could be a Codec issue: .
You might want to try uninstalling WMP9 this way: Start / Run / Type in: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINDOWS\INF\wmp.inf
Now try reinstalling from: .
Another very good WMP troubleshoot/support site is .

Media Player 9 has been known to be troublesome. You might like to try going back to Media Player 7.1. It doesnt have all the added features that 9 has but it seems to be less of a problem. Daniel

Hey Brad...the DVD player works fine.
I only use MP9 for video trailers online.
Thhanks Daniel but I tried that.
I uninstalled it again through ADD/REMOVE and it reverted back to 6.
It works ok!!
I'll try uninstalling the way Brad suggest and I'll post back.

Ok...
I typed it like this:
RunDLL32advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINDOWS\INF\wmp.inf

Comes up saying file cannot be found??

That tip was because I thought that you couldn't get WMP 9 uninstalled.
Sounds like you got it already.
Stick with WMP 6 or 7 as they run with a lot less problems on some systems.

Ok Brad...I just downloaded 7.1 from your link.
Clicking the MP icon shows that its opening in the taskbar but clicking it sends it off to the top right corner right off the screen????

That is strange. You can't even drag it? What if you Right Click it's icon / Properties / and select the window size to "Maximized"?
If these don't work I'm not sure. Have you done any scans lately?
Download / Install / Update / and Run .

Then:

Download and run:

Try WMP now if it's still messed up let's see what's running:

Download and install . Now Run it and post a copy of the Log File here.
