Help!!!!! CD Rom missing

help please
last nite i burned a cd all was well but today when i went to burn 1 my cd rom wasnt there. i tried add new hardware to see if it would reinstall but it said that it wasnt there either. i havent taken the case off my tower so all the wires r plugged in. im completely baffled.....
please reply asap. it would be greatly appreciated.
