password protected web pages

hmmm, my previous post has been lost, floating round in cyber space somewhere....poor thing! lol

Anyhoo, html & javascript password protected pages.....I wanted to know how to link the password request page to the actual page that I needed to protect.
My previous post did get an a responce from someone who 'loves html' but I can't remember their name....sorry!!! If you're reading this, please post again!!!!!!!!! lol

I was told that the script I was using would simply look for the page with the same name as the password, ie if I had a page called secret.html then the password would be secret.
I want to know how the password script knows the difference between hidden pages and non hidden. If the main page is called welcome.html and obviously I wouldn't want it hidden, but if I entered 'welcome' into the password request, would it simply take me to the welcome page?

I'm not sure if any of this is making sense, but I haven't a clue what I'm talking about, so forgive me if I'm causing confusion!
And does anyone know where I can get a script for join/member log in, like the forum has, but without the numerical security!

Thanx

xxxxxxx

I remember your post in fact I wrote a nice reply but for some unknown reason even using the "[code]" tag I cannot post it here.
If you click on you can read the post and the code I have used in the past.

The code in the above link has an encryption for the login name and password and
will only forward to the protected page.
If the login or password is wrong then you will only get a popup stating the wrong login/password combination was used.

If you are looking for join and login pages like this site uses
then you will have to use server side programming like cgi, php or asp.
All of these are not recommended for a beginner.

That script worked out great Gecko! I got it all set up and then I encrypted
the html code in the password page with a free HTML encryption program. My buddy has been trying to hack into it for about 5 hours now with a brute force script he wrote.. Now the diffrence between Cgi, php ect is that your page can be hacked offline with java script ect and with PHP it has to be done online right? And with PhP you can ban IP's after so many attempts ect? I want to start learning more about it any pointers on where to look for info?
