Hello, I’m asking a general question here. Is it against the law to sell 'backup' copies of games/movies/cd's on eBay.

Here’s my angel.

This auction is for blah blah. It is a back-up copy and should only be bought by someone who owns the original and I take no responsibility whatsoever for anyone breaking the law. I do not condone piracy. Please don’t bid if you don’t own original copies.

i would say yes it is against the law? its still a copy of the original.. what happens with a game asks for a serial #'s?

Well it's a backup and legally you're allowed backs up of your own games aren't you? so I would say it is legal, as long as you make sure the person accepts all responsibiliy for any trouble they might get in. Also, it might be against Ebay's rules. I've never seen any fake i mean errrrrm back up copies on ebay before. Another thing, if the person who buys it get's caught, they could just say it's the back up version and they've lost the original! bit of a risk though.

eBay Policy on Backup Software:
As a matter of eBay policy "backup" or "archival" copies of any software may not be listed on eBay (including games software, whether on disk, console or cartridge). eBay is aware that sometimes you may lawfully make a backup copy of software, and in some rare instances, even lawfully sell that backup copy. However, even legally permissible copies of "backup" or "archival" software are not permitted on eBay.
