java is a good starting point because it helps to progress on more difficult langauges like C ++ etc... as they branch off each other slighty...

I enjoyed learning java programming im such a nerd :|

Currently I am working on a Visual Basic database project.
Visual Basic is another good one to start with before you go on to object oriented programming like C++

i agree VB is fun too :D and kinda easy where the GUI's are there u just make the gui design you want. Unlike java where you have to code it all which kinda sucks :( .

I did VB and pascal at college, VB is really fun, but pascal is boring and tricky. You can make some really cool things in VB, we got shown how to make our own version of paint which was really cool. It even had a save function! lol. Yeah i'd go with VB :)

I'm doing A-Level computing, it's ok bit boring in places though. The fun side of VB has worn off now because we are doing databases, so whenever we use vb it's in relation to our database project. We made pong once aswell lol, which was a lot of fun. Tricky though. :)
