XP Hard Drive Capacity

Postby venney » Mon Mar 16, 2009 2:37 am

Does xp 32bit have a hard drive capacity? i mean both per drive and in total?

I already have 1585GB of space over three drives and im considering putting another TB drive in, would this work?

it should as long as you have sp2 or higher

u might want to disable indexing service though, thats alot of space to monitor. Gonna slow you down if you dont.

Great to hear liljim :D

I was dreading a reply saying 2TB!

So i can just continue to plug hard drives in until my mobo is out of SATA ports?

2TB!!!!

Ha ha
venney with all that storage space I would hate to see you loose any data, do you have backups?

I use Acronis as our incremental backup and imaging software, each of our work systems have their own second backup hdd.
Plus I have one system that backs up the other four work systems nightly to mirrored drives as well.
Between those five systems, the Linux server and both my girls systems we have over 12TB of hhd space.

12TB :O oh my that is a lot.

As for a back up, I have some of it backed up on an external 1TB hard drive. I backed all my pc up before I came back to uni, in case my uni house was burgled.
I fear that when i go home and do another backup that my external drive will be full. Does Acronis compress things? I have just literally made a second copy of all my music, movies, uni work, docs, pics.

I've been called that before, by my own by my sister no less, so nothing new. :P

I maybe a little over the top but I promised myself I would never let it happen again.
I had a drive fail and I didn't have a recent backup and I needed a number of files off the drive.
I spent two days doing the recovery and finding the client files I needed.

The most we could ever loose is one days work, and two separate drives would have to fail for that to happen now.

Before I started using Acronis I used the free version of Syncback for years to do my incremental backups.
It has more options then you will ever need, and yes venney it will even create compressed zip file backups.

hehe..heard it a time or 2 myself

i dont think your config is over the top at all, mine is just been lazy but im past due for a much dreaded clean install just to restore some order back into my own little chaos. 3 drives in this thing, 5 partitions 2 OS's has become an unorganized mess. Install date 10/26/06
