Fried something need advice

Postby Chillspider » Sun Jul 31, 2011 12:41 am

My dads computer has 2 usb ports in from and one of the white connectors is gone except the little metal tabs where it connects and the other plug is next to it without anything between them and he plugged in an external drive and it touched the broken one I think and he heard a zap and the computer shut down wont come on at all . Light on the MB is bright green and thats about all i got so far I dont know why he would still use that broken port but thats a later matter I will be unplugging that before anything.

Before you do anything, unplug the system from the power cord/outlet, then remove the side cover and disconnect the 2 front USB ports from the motherboard connector. Then try and see if it boots or at least beeps. If not there is a good chance that something on the motherboard was damaged by that zap.
Good luck

in addition to the above action, I would suggest discharge and reset the computer.

unplug the power cord, pressing the power button over 20 seconds do not let go.
This will discharge the computer.

If still the same problem, try reseat the CPU, RAM, HDD data cable, power connectors to the mobo.

Hope this helps!
