Enclosure Info

Postby J.jankel » Tue Jul 19, 2011 8:31 pm

I am moving my 2.5 Hitachi HTS545050B9A300 SATA II 500G 5400Rpm HDD out of my laptop an into a external enclosure and putting a SSD SATA III in its place. My questions are do I need an enclosure that has a AC power connection, And should I run the eSATA connection or is a USB 2.0 connection good enough? I don't have a USB 3.0 port on my device, but it does have a USB 2.0/eSATA port. The SSD will only have Windows and a few programs on it, and the Hitachi will have everything else. All my downloads ( I download ALOT ) will be save straight to the Hitachi as well as all other programs so it will always be plugged in and running.

I'm lost on this one guys and gals, so any help would be greatly appreciated.. What Should I get?

Thanks -Justin

I would think you need a powered enclosure.

Since you don't have USB 3.0 eSATA will achieve better speeds. So if you are copying files to and from it, that's the way to go. IMHO :)
