web design methods

Postby leeegglestone » Sat Dec 24, 2005 5:40 pm

I learned some html and some asp while I was at college

If i was to make a website. What would be the best method to use?
It will be a site that sells packages, such as activities, accommodation. suppose like a travel shop.

I know alot of people prefer flash, sql
+also software to use. Ive just used frontpage+dreamweaver a little.

Im a long way from even offering services or products to people, but just thinking longterm, if i should start learning a new skill for web design.

That will depend a lot on how many different items you plan on selling and how often you will need to edit/add an item.
You will also need to decide how your potential customers will purchase an item.

If you are talk just a few items that will not change then a static html web site will do you just fine.
In this case frontpage or dreamweaver will do just fine.

If you are going to have a number of items that will change often then I would suggest a server side web site like asp or php.

Personally I prefer php with a mysql database it’s a little confusing at first but once you get the hang of it’s a very powerful language.
There are a number of open source code php bundles that can get you up and running with out knowing much code.
Most of them come with an installer already setup to walk you through getting it up and running.
Below is a short list for free php shopping carts:

cube cart
echo cart

Hi leeegglestone,

You can design very eye-catching and professional website but without focused traffic, it’s almost timeless. Openly speaking, SEO related websites do 50% of the SEO by itself.

Here are top 06 tips for SEO friendly website design:

01. Use unique heading and description on each page
02. Avoid using frames
03. Image optimize
04. Try to fetch URL which contains your key keywords
05. Have a quality link place in footer
06. Avoid including text contained by the image

It is depend on how the different items you can plan in selling and edit/add an item. You need to study the potential of one customer that will like to purchase an item. However, I have here some info maybe it is related in the topic hope this can be part of the discussion xxx.onextrapixel.com/2010/08/24/20-methods-for-upping-your-current-web-design-skills/.

I think, you schould try to learn PHP, mySQL. You schould try to build dynamic web pages, with dynamically generated content (from databeses).

I always use external CSS, divs, and very few images (if any at all)

Frames and tables for layouts are generally considered bad practice.

Another good thing to think about is to include your menus and footers in .php and then call these menus with the include() function;

Web designers are professionals who organize information, create page layouts, while communicating the business's information/opinions in a website. web designers create another medium for the business to expand into. Creating a website enables the business to attract new customers, showcase its services/products, and to do business across countries
