Uploading images

Postby Dave_Lethal » Mon Jul 25, 2005 11:58 pm

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I'm trying to upload an avatar for this website and I'm having some trouble.

I tried creating an image in Photoshop that was 80 pixels by 80 pixels. When I save the image as a JPG, the file size is 11 kb, even on the lowest quality setting. To upload an avatar, it has to be 6 kb or less.

So I tried saving the image as a .GIF and a .PNG, and both were under 6 kb, but I keep getting the following error message at the top of the profile page:

Warning: copy(./modules/Forums/images/avatars/28008276942e56db3a1179.png): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/pctechfo/public_html/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 232

Any ideas?

In Photoshop to save a .jpg smaller:
File > Save for web > in the new window look for the save type dropdown on the right select .jpg
Now set the percentage to 30%, in the lower left corner of the window it will give you the file size, adjust as needed to make the 6kb limit.
Warning: copy(./modules/Forums/images/avatars/28008276942e56db3a1179.png): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/pctechfo/public_html/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 232

I don’t think that .png is supported in nuke, I could be wrong though.

If you need a place to host a few images I have a little free service I can offer here
You don’t even have to register to use it just upload the image and you will be provided with the code to copy and paste.
I only ask that you not distribute the url and that you don’t abuse it, image max size is 75kb.

Wow, that brought it down to 952 bytes. Thanks Gecko. :)

However, I'm still getting this

Warning: copy(./modules/Forums/images/avatars/89147825242e5911d2982c.jpg): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/pctechfo/public_html/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 232

after trying to upload a regular .JPG file, and the avatar is just showing the broken pic symbol.

For some reason, I cannot upload any pic at all, even the one I had before I tried to change it. Is there a problem with the site right now?
